Cultural Routes
Roman City of Pollentia
Cultural route that takes you to the Roman city of Pollentia, former capital of the Balearic Islands in the days of the Republic and the Empire. This route will lead you to the most interesting remains from the Romans in current Alcúdia: the residential area, the forum, the theatre and the monographic museum of Pollentia.
ROUTE
- The route starts at La Portella, the residential area located near Sant Jaume's church in Avinguda del Príncep d'Espanya. There you'll see the Casa dels Dos Tresors, the Casa del Noroest and the Casa del Cap de Bronze.
- A footbridge will take you to the Forum.
- Departing from the archaeologic area take Avinguda del Príncep d'Espanya towards the Post Office and turn right into the first street. Follow this street ca 900 m until you arrive to the Roman Theatre.
- To go to the Monografic Museum of Pollentia you've got to return to Alcúdia and take Avinguda del Príncep d'Espanya until Sant Jaume's church. Right behind the church you'll find the Museum, in Carrer Sant Jaume 30.
Monographic Museum of Pollentia
It is located in the old 14th century hospital in the historic centre. Pieces from excavation campaigns in Pollentia are displayed according to materials: an important collection of ceramics, glassware, jewellery, etc. The three marble sculptures found in the forum and the bronze bust of a woman, which gives name to one of the houses in the portico area, deserve all our full attention. In the museum a section is set aside for the necropolis of Pollentia with the inscription of Cornelius Atticus.
