Gastronomy
Tapas
Tapas are an age-old tradition strongly close to Spanish gastronomy which has become popular everywhere in the world. They are small appetizers before meals usually eaten standing and served together with a glas of wine or a soft drink. Many times you don't have to ask for it as it comes together with the drinks. A small portion of omelette, some olives, chips…
This custom also exists in Alcúdia but it's slightly different. The traditional Mallorcan tapas can be seen in some bars displayed on the counter. They're traditional dishes like frit mallorquí, pork loin with mushrooms, tumbet, trempó, pica-pica, mushrooms, snails, llengua amb tàperes... They're served in different portions. If you can't choose one, then why not trying them all by asking for a variat (assorted dish), which is an assorted dish where you can combine those you feel like. This is without any doubt the best and cheapest way to try the Mallorcan cuisine. You'll surely have a second helping.
